STRATEGIC PRIORITIES
Te Rau Puāwai Education Trust’s three strategic priorities are:
1. Building learning capabilities from birth. There is compelling evidence of the importance of early years, the influence of parents, caregivers, family and whānau as first teachers, and that early emotional connectedness and language confidence are critical to engagement in learning.
2. School or community initiatives that disrupt the ongoing impacts of poverty on children and young people’s learning.
3. Addressing inequity, in particular to enhance learning outcomes for Māori, Pasifika, neurodiverse and children and young people who are underserved or require learning support.
Learning outcomes are defined as both the social and cognitive skills and capabilities that enhance life outcomes.
The definition of 'teacher' embraces a broad range of people who impact on a student’s learning outcomes, and includes members of the teaching profession, related professions, support staff, parents, family and whānau, hapū/iwi and the wider community.
Areas of Interest
Te Rau Puāwai Education Trust is interested in innovative locally led, community centric and school based initiatives, interventions and projects that:
Increase teacher effectiveness to respond to inequality, inequity and diverse learning needs
Integrate research, practice and evaluation
Support creative and innovative solutions that are specific to schools and communities
Support purposeful collaboration, for example:
Among teachers
Among parents/families/whanau
Among schools
Among organisations
Among hapū/iwi
Between schools and academic researchers
Between schools and stakeholders
Please note:
We are not looking to replicate initiatives that are funded elsewhere (e.g. Breakfast in Schools) unless there is a specific and local reason for trying to do it differently.
All monies granted need to be spent within one calendar year.
